Obituary

Lisa J. Boodman, 71, died on October 13 2026 at Newbury Court in Concord, Mass., after a years-long battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

The daughter of Helen Citron Boodman and the late David M. Boodman, Lisa lived in Lexington for 60 years. In 2020 she moved to a continuing care community with her late husband BJ Rudman, He was exceptionally devoted to her, as she was to him, during their 37-year marriage.

Lisa was a warm and generous person with a great sense of humor. A talented musician, she played the piano, had a beautiful soprano voice and perfect pitch. As an adult she sang with the Lexington Pops Chorus.

A 1976 graduate of Connecticut College, she planned to teach. But her career took an unexpected detour when she became involved in a successful campaign to organize clerical workers at Boston University. She was recruited to work for the Massachusetts legislature and earned her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1987. She clerked for several superior court justices and spent 20 years at the Massachusetts Group Insurance Commission, which manages health benefits for state employees. She retired as chief counsel in 2008. After retirement she volunteered as a teacher's aide in the Lexington Public Schools and at Planned Parenthood in Boston. Lisa loved Paris and good food -- especially chocolate -- and was an excellent cook. She was devoted to her family: her daughter, Sarah Rudman of Watertown, her stepson Jonah Rudman and his wife Stacy of Burlington and their two sons; her mother Helen of Lexington; her sister Sandra G. Boodman of Alexandria, Va., and Sandra’s husband, daughter and son-in-law.

Her family is deeply grateful to The Gardens Memory Care Unit and Care Dimensions Hospice for years of compassionate care. A celebration of life is planned for later in the fall.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Planned Parenthood.
