DEVENIS, Luanna E. (Ellis) Of Lexington, died peacefully at home on Friday afternoon, June 10, 2016 at the age of 88. Former wife of Keistutis Peter Devenis of Concord. She was married for 30 years and raised 2 children, Jonas Ellis Devenis of Arlington who predeceased her in 2008 and Luanna Elena Devenis of Lexington. Born on March 21, 1928 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, the only child of Emma Thompson Ellis and Roy Ellis. Luanna attended Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana, where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. A Graduate of Spaulding University, formerly Nazareth College in Louisville, Kentucky, she was employed as an elementary school teacher for several years before she became a devoted wife and loving mother. Active in Republican politics, Luanna was President of the Women's Republican Club of Lexington. She was Chair and Secretary of the Lexington Republican Town Committee, and Chair and Republican Registrar for the Board of Registrars of Voters for the the Town of Lexington. An expert knitter, she enjoyed knitting hats, mittens and sweaters for friends and family who were always delighted with her handiwork. As the last original homeowner to remain in the neighborhood where she had lived for 57 years, she enjoyed playing the piano, reading non-fiction, and keeping up with currect events. Memorial visiting hours will be held at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON, on Saturday, June 18 from 1-5 pm.
