Lucille Vitale
Augustine
May 12, 1941 — Apr 9, 2026
Lucille Vitale Augustine, 84, of Acton, formerly of Lexington Massachusetts, died peacefully in hospice care on April 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on May 12, 1941, in Arlington, Massachusetts, Lucille lived a life defined by devotion to her friends, community and above all, her family.
A graduate of Lexington High School, Lucille went on to attend the Katherine Gibbs School for business. Lucille opted to dedicate herself fully to family life, devoting herself as a homemaker. After raising her family she went back to work at Elliot Community Health for more than 20 years, retiring at 70.
Lucille married Joseph Augustine, in 1960, and together they enjoyed many happy years building a home in Lexington where they raised four children. Lucille and Joe loved planning family vacations and then traveled abroad as empty nesters.
For Lucille, that home was her greatest achievement and her truest calling. She was a constant, supportive presence in her children's lives — a dedicated PTA member, a den mother for the Cub Scouts, and a troop leader for the Brownies known for always showing up wherever her children and neighbors needed her most.
Beyond her family, Lucille pursued life with spirit and style. She was a passionate tennis player and a formidable opponent at both bridge and mahjong. She loved the beach, travel, and nothing made her happier than gathering friends around her table for a dinner party. She had a rare gift for bringing people together, and those who knew her will remember the warmth and joy that filled every room she entered.
Lucille is survived by her four children: Stephen Augustine, Julie Coulton, Nancy Brandford, and Lauren Farren; and her grandchildren: Kayla and her husband Gregory Karpacze, Kelsi Farren, Calvin Brandford, Isabella Brandford, Daniel Augustine, and Amelia Coulton.
Lucille lost her loving husband, Joseph Augustine, of nearly 60 years in May 2016; her parents Edith and Joseph Vitale, sister Marie Sutherland, and other cherished family members and friends.
Family and Friends are invited to pay their respects at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington on Tuesday, April 21st from 9:00 to 10:00 AM. Followed by a Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 16 Follen Road, Lexington at 10:30am. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
