PEYTON, Malcolm Cameron, age 93, died on January 26, 2025 in Lexington,
MA. Malcolm was born in New York City on January 12, 1932. He grew up in
Princeton, New Jersey and attended Princeton University for undergraduate and
graduate training in musical composition. In 1965 Malcolm joined the faculty of
New England Conservatory, where he taught for over 50 years and served as the
long-time chair of the composition department. He was awarded an honorary
doctorate by NEC in 2016. Malcolm is survived by his wife Barbara Winchester
and five daughters – Susanna Peyton, Bettina Peyton, Emily Peyton, Jessica Lewis,
and Laura Peyton – as well as fourteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the Peyton family asks that donations be made to New England
