O'Meara, Mary Elizabeth of Bedford, formerly of Glastonbury, Connecticut died Thursday March 18th at age 95. Beloved wife of the late William Joseph O'Meara, she leaves behind her daughter Catherine (O'Meara) Parshley and her husband Paul of Boston and son Michael O'Meara and his wife Carla of Fort Myers, Florida. She also leaves five grandchildren, Jessica, Michael, Catherine, Elizabeth and Michael William and three great grandchildren. Mary was born on April 22, 1920 in New Haven, Connecticut the daughter of Sarah (Aspinall) and Oscar Perreault. She was educated in Hartford Connecticut and just after high school began a career in the public relations department at the Aetna Casualty and Surety Company where she remained until her marriage to Joseph Lister, a World War II Naval Aviator. She was widowed at age 26 and returned to her work at Aetna where she met and married William O'Meara in 1950. William passed away in 1993. Mary committed herself to a variety of volunteer and charitable activities while raising her two children. Her activities included leading The Heart Fund Drive in 1976. She was Director of the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary, and President of the St. Augustine Church Alter Guild. She served as a volunteer at Connecticut Children's Medical Center for more than 40 year, retiring at age 90. Mary said often of volunteerism, "You get far more than you give." She thoroughly enjoyed the final chapter of her life residing at Carleton Willard Village in Bedford and continued to give of herself in many ways to that community. Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral mass and celebration of Mary's life on Saturday April 2nd at 11AM at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Lexington, Massachusetts preceded by calling hours beginning at 9:30AM to 11:00AM at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Hartford, Connecticut.
