Obituary

Maureen Welby Tobiassen

May 13, 1969 – February 28, 2026

Maureen Welby Tobiassen passed away unexpectedly on February 28, 2026, leaving a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her. Born on May 13, 1969, in Brighton, Massachusetts, to Daniel F. and Laura C. Welby, Maureen lived a life defined by vibrancy, laughter, and an unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

A proud graduate of Lexington High School, Class of 1987, Maureen went on to earn her degree from Merrimack College in 1991. Driven by a desire to care for others, she attended the Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene. As a dental hygienist, Maureen found true fulfillment in her career, where she was known for her gentle touch and her special ability to put her young patients and regulars at ease.

Maureen's spirit was fueled by adventure and connection. She was a woman who cherished her traditions, whether she was embarking on annual trips to Aruba with her favorite cousins, enjoying the peaceful shores of Wells Beach, Maine, with her mother and son, or traveling across the country to visit her brother in the many places he called home. However, her favorite sanctuary was The Balsams Resort in Dixville, NH, where she spent 32 cherished summers. Whether she was swimming, biking, or sharing a laugh and a drink by the pool, Maureen was at her happiest when surrounded by her lifelong friends and extended family at the Balsams.

In 2009, Maureen's life found its greatest purpose when she became a mother to her son, Tommy. He was truly her world. Maureen was his biggest cheerleader, constantly updating friends and family with his latest accomplishments and beaming with pride at the young man he was becoming.

Maureen will be remembered for her radiant smile that could fill any room and a heart that was as kind as it was caring. She had a unique way of impacting lives in beautiful, lasting ways, and her absence leaves her family heartbroken.

Maureen was preceded in death by her beloved father, Daniel F. Welby. She is survived by her adored son, Tommy Tobiassen, her beloved mother, Laura Welby, and her devoted brother, Daniel Welby and his wife Melissa. Also survived by her cherished nieces, Elliana, Kyla, and Aliya. She also leaves behind an extensive circle of cousins and dear friends who were like family to her.
