Millard Gregory (Bud) Owen, 96, of Lincoln, formerly of Lexington, died peacefully on December 2, 2021. Bud was born on January 5, 1925 in Arlington, MA, and spent much of his youth in Schenectady, NY. While a student at Boston College, he entered the Navy College Training Program attending multiple universities before being commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy. Bud served in the Pacific during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Boston College and graduated in 1949.

In 1951, Bud's career at the Boston Globe started as an Ad Taker. They were located at that time on what was called newspaper row, Washington St. area of Boston.  Starting as an Ad Taker, he moved to the Outside Sales Group in 1953 selling Retail and National advertising. He then moved to management. National Advertising Manager in 1972, General Advertising Manager in 1973. Advertising Director in September 1977. Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Circulation in 1981. When Bud retired in December of 1989 he had risen to the position of Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales.  Bud loved his advertising career of 38 years but above all he loved the Boston Globe and it's people.

In retirement, he and Madeline were summer residents in New London, NH. He enjoyed golfing and fishing and time with his many grandchildren.  He was an avid reader and pursued life-long learning and discourse while attending Harvard Adult Education courses well into his eighties.

Bud was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Madeline (Clifford) Owen, in 2015, as well as his sister Kathleen Walsh. He is survived by his five daughters, Priscilla McPhee and her husband Allan of Winchester, MaryLou Hoyt and her husband Stephen of New London, NH, Constance Gallagher, and her husband Michael Renkawitz of Feeding Hills, Susan Owen-Smith, and her husband Kim of Peterborough, NH, and Catherine Owen, and her husband Mark Owen of Hertfordshire, England. He is also survived by his two sons, Thomas Owen, and his wife Sheryl of Tampa, FL, and Charles Owen, and his wife Martha of Framingham. Bud was blessed with 14 grandchildren, Kristen, Stephen, Kate, Mike, Sarah, Amanda, Andrew, Zinnia, Frances, Christopher, Maggie, Kyle, Mikayla and Charlie. In addition, he leaves 11 great grandchildren. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held Monday, December 6, 2021, from 4-7 pm at Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington. The Liturgy of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Saint Brigid Church, 1981 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington at 10am (procession from the funeral home at 9am), with Rites of Committal to conclude at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.
