On November 11, 2024, Mohana Ramadas passed away peacefully at age 91 at her daughter Ranjani's home in Lexington, MA where she had been living for the past 8 years. She was surrounded by her daughter, Ranjani, son-in-law, Sriram, and her grandchildren, Varun and Meera, as she took her last breath.

Mohana was born in Bangalore in 1933. She was the 8th sibling of 10 born to her parents, Seshamma and B.N. Iyengar. As a child, Mohana remembered doing prayer chants with her mother before dinner. All of the 10 siblings would gather together for dinner in their large home that had a beautiful garden in the front. Delicious mangoes often found their way into the home.

Mohana married K.S. Ramadas in 1953 and they had one daughter, Ranjani. Mohana also took on a caregiving role for her mother, who lived with her until her passing. As a result, Mohana and Ramadas' home in Bangalore was always busy, with friends and extended family frequently stopping by to visit and be entertained. Mohana and Ramadas always made sure that their guests were well fed and taken care of, and they enjoyed visiting and being pampered by her and Ramadas. Their home was a hub for big festivals, like Krishna Jayanthi (to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna) and everything was prepared with great quality and care.

Ranjani and Sriram's summer visits to India with their children were a great source of joy for all, from combative card games, to making fresh lime juice, and being treated to Cadbury's chocolates, and homemade snacks and delicacies.

Mohana's husband Ramadas unexpectedly passed away in 2000. After his death, she continued to live a vibrant life and valued her independence. She kept busy by visiting friends and family in Bangalore, and being actively involved in her women's social groups in activities pertaining to music and prayer. She made frequent visits to the USA to visit her daughter, Ranjani and her family. One of her unique talents was forming relationships across generations and having an ability to connect with family members in many walks of life.

In 2016, Mohana moved to Lexington, MA to live with her daughter Ranjani, who took on a caregiving role for her mother. Although she missed the freedom of her independent life she built in Bangalore, she adapted to living in the US and learned to embrace different values and cultures from her own in spite of growing up with more conservative values.

In the US, she was constantly surrounded by family and witnessed many significant events, like the birth of her great-grandchild Cruz, who entertained her with his play. In Lexington, she was a huge presence in the life of Ranjani's family and friends, and she embarked on many great adventures, like traveling to Florida, the Bay Area, the Grand Canyon, going to the beach, climbing a 4 story walk-up to visit her grandson Varun in the East Village in New York, and even attending her granddaughter Meera's rock 'n' roll concerts. She loved being around people and always wanted to be in the center of the action.

In 2023, Mohana celebrated her 90th birthday with friends and family who came from all over the country just to be with her for the big occasion. Everyone commented on her big smile and how young she looked for her age. As she did for every occasion, Mohana took great pride in her appearance and fashion, always wanting to display her best self through her clothing choices.

Mohana is survived by her younger sister, Rama Sampath, the last living of the 10 siblings; daughter Ranjani and son-in-law Sriram; grandson Varun and his wife Amanda; granddaughter Meera; and great-grandson Cruz. She was beloved by her family and will be greatly missed.
