Obituary

NESBEDA, Paul P. 92, a longtime resident of Lexington, died on Saturday, July 20, 2013, after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Mary E. (Sullivan) Nesbeda. He is survived by his children, Peter J. Nesbeda (Linda) of Marlborough, NH, Elizabeth Contessa (Ralph) of The Villages, FL, Eugene P. Nesbeda (Jennifer) of Franklin Lakes, NJ, Christina M. Nesbeda of Worcester, MA and Ellen B. Nesbeda of Woburn, MA; his sister, Miranda Nesbeda of Trieste, Italy; 5 grandchildren: Hannah, Robin, Katherine, Alexandra, and Natasha; his nephew, Fabio Nesbeda and niece Maria Louisa, both of Italy. Paolo Nesbeda was born June 20, 1921 in Trieste, Italy, the son of Giusto and Maria (Pahor) Nesbeda. He received the Doctor of Mathematical Sciences Degree from the University of Pisa in 1943. From 1943 to 1952 he was engaged in teaching and research. In 1947, he came to the United States under the sponsorship of Professor Marston Morse of the Institute of Advanced Study at Princeton, NJ as a permanent resident. He became a naturalized citizen in 1951. From 1952 through 1991, Paul worked for RCA and MITRE mainly in the fields of communication and radar detection. He was a member of many Mathematical Societies and listed in "American Men of Science". In addition, Paul was an avid sailor and Race Committee member for Corinthian Yacht Club in Marblehead, a lover of opera and symphony, a gardener and volunteer. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the charity of your choice . Funeral from the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., LEXINGTON Tuesday, July 23 at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Interment private.
