WHITNEY, Paul Lewie Of Brighton and formerly Lexington, MA, son of the late Cecil E. and Mildred E. Whitney of Lexington, brother of the late Marcia E. Decter of Wellesley, loving uncle of Karen E. Decter Malek of Paris, France and David J. Decter of Boston, and devoted friend of Leslie Elaine of Denver, CO, died on Friday June 3, 2011 at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge of interstitial lung disease. Paul was born in Norwell on June 20, 1940 and graduated from Lexington High School. He played piano, was an amateur photographer and enjoyed horseback riding, bicycling and golf. He was an avid Massachusetts sports teams fan, most particularly of the Boston Red Sox. Paul worked with Employment Options Inc. of Marlborough, MA, a non-profit psychosocial clubhouse whose mission is to improve the lives of those living with mental illness. He was named employee of the year in 2002 by Monnick Supply of Marlborough, and on May 13, 2003 in the Great Hall at the Statehouse in Boston, Paul was among those honored by the Massachusetts Clubhouse Coalition (MCC). The Department of Mental Health (DMH) acting Commissioner Dr. Kenneth Duckworth joined over 50 Massachusetts legislators in honoring key employers for providing critical jobs while recognizing the accomplishments of people who have disabilities as they overcome obstacles and return to work. Paul will be missed by all those who had the honor of knowing him. Gratitude and love is extended to Attorney Elizabeth (Liz) Baum for her unparalleled care and support. A private interment will take place at Newton Cemetery Corporation, 791 Walnut Street, Newton Center. Donations to honor Paul's memory can be made to the Mission of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA) of which he was a lifelong supporter, or to the above-mentioned Employment Options Inc. of Marlborough, MA.
