Peter J. Scopa, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter J. Scopa, Sr., of Northfield, NH, who left this world at the age of 88.  Pete (Rocko) was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He was a beloved member of his community. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on August 29, 2025.

Born and raised in a time when community and service were paramount, Pete dedicated an incredible 59 years of his life to law enforcement as a police officer in Lexington, Massachusetts. He served with distinction as both a patrolman and a special officer, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the townspeople he protected.

An athlete at heart, Pete played three sports in high school, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for teamwork. His passion for sports continued throughout his life, whether it was playing, watching games, or sharing the joy of sports with his family.

Pete had many hobbies that brought him joy, including fishing, attending car shows, and collecting baseball memorabilia. He was particularly proud of his classic cars, including a stunning 1960 Chevy Impala and a 1963 Buick, which he cherished as symbols of his youth and passion for craftsmanship.

Pete leaves behind his loving partner and best friend of 30 years, Gail Weldon, with whom he enjoyed life's simple pleasures.

Pete is also survived by his three children: Carolyn Varin (James Mayhew) of Campton, NH, Peter Scopa, Jr. (Alana) of Lexington, MA, Leanne Boyd (James) of Chelmsford, MA, and Gail's children Jodi Van Praet (Alan) of Laconia, NH and Eric Hannabury (Alison) of Lynn, MA. He was a proud grandfather to Nicholas Varin, Matthew Varin (Chelsea), Carley Ferrara (Brandon), Lila Boyd, Chloe, Olivia and Samuel Scopa as well as Gail's grandchildren Michaela Mackin, Madelyn, Adam and Cameron Van Praet and Reid, Cole and Luke Hannabury. He was also a delighted great-grandfather to Emerson Varin, who brought an extra sparkle to his life. He will also be fondly remembered as a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Pete was predeceased by his parents Peter and Angela (Moretti), his brother Paul and his sisters Rose Bellino and Carol Strazullo. Also his wife of 29 years: Marion (Barett) whose memory he cherished.

Pete's kindness, humor, and dedication to his family and community will be remembered by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, love and unforgettable memories that will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Calling hours will be at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington on Tuesday, September 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00pm. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 3rd at the Saint Brigid Church, 1981 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington at 10:00am (procession from the funeral home at 9:00am). Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment to follow at the Westview Cemetery, Lexington.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the contributions to be sent to the Tunnel to Towers foundation (t2t.org) or a charity of one's choice.
