Phyllis R. Sandberg of Lexington passed away peacefully at Sunrise of Arlington Assisted Living on December 9, 2012 after an extended illness. Daughter of the late Arthur E. and Inez M. (Stingel) Sandberg. Born in Cambridge, MA, she worked as a Medical Secretary at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, retiring in 1996 after 41 years. She was an avid reader throughout her life, and was an active member of a local mystery book club. She loved photography and travel, and enjoyed trips to the U.K., Bermuda, Mexico, and Scandinavia, especially visiting relatives in Sweden, with whom she worked to assemble a genealogical history of the Sandberg family. In her later years, she enjoyed summer trips to Downeast Maine with family and friends. Her great generosity and thoughtful spirit will be remembered by all who loved her so much. Loving sister of Glenna Silva of N. Chelmsford, Richard Sandberg of Lexington, Jean Tobey (James) of East Bridgewater, and Bruce Sandberg (Nancy) of Centerville. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held with family members and invited guests at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11:00AM. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis' memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472, or the charity of your choice.
