Priscilla Louise Dawes passed away on September 14th, 2024.  She was the daughter of Howard and Mildred (Salmon) Dawes and the sister of David Dawes, all of whom predeceased her.  Priscilla graduated from Lexington High School and Mount Holyoke College where she earned a bachelor's degree and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa.  Academically her first love was poetry, and she began a graduate program in poetry at Boston University where she studied with such scholars as Helen Vendler and where she made many friends.  Due to illness she was unable to continue her studies.  She eventually worked as a CNA at nursing homes in Lexington and Arlington and wrote about her experiences in an article that emphasized the critical roles that CNA's play in the care of nursing home residents.  She wrote Haiku, most of which focused on nature, led and attended poetry study groups, and maintained connections with many people who shared her interest.  She was a long-time member of North Woburn Congregational Church; several of her Haiku were the basis for one of the Sunday morning services there, and she wrote others for special occasions.  For a number of years, Priscilla was a resident of Pine Knoll Nursing Center where she was active as an officer on the resident council.  She reached out to other people, was happiest with her many friends among the residents and staff, and all agreed that she was contributing in a positive way to the community there.  When she found herself in need of more care, she benefited greatly from an outpouring of support from those she had befriended.  Priscilla was an important part of the Dawes family and of the Richardson family, longtime great friends. she is very much missed.
