Robert R. Langer, 63, of Bedford (formerly of Lexington) and Nantucket, MA, died peacefully at
home on October 28, 2009 surrounded by his family after a courageous 11 year battle with
multiple system atrophy. Mr. Langer was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Catharine
Langer of Delmar, NY and his stepmother, Delores Langer of Altamont, NY. He is survived by
his wife of 27 years, Carol, by his daughter and son-in law, Molly and David Gutcher of Tampa,
Florida, his sons and their partners Kurt Langer and Mio Murakami of Brooklyn, NY and Todd
Langer and Danielle Campbell of Marlborough, MA, by his grandson John Gutcher and step-
granddaughter Tatetum Clark. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Richard
"Fritz" and Rebecca Langer of Loudenville, NY and his sister and brother-in law Mary and
Edward White of Dunbarton, NH. He is also survived by a nephew, Jason Langer and three
nieces, Heidi Langer Atkinson, Elizabeth White and Jennifer White.
Rob was born in Albany, NY and grew up in Niskayuna and then Delmar, NY. He graduated
from Bethlehem Central High School and Union College and served honorably as a captain in
the U.S. Air Force as a missile crew commander before attending Harvard Business School. He
spent his career working in the finance area, first in public accounting and later in various
technology companies as CFO. He was devoted to his family and loved to spend time outdoors
with family and friends, frequenting the beaches of Nantucket in the summer and the ski slopes
in the winter.
A celebration of Rob's life will be held on Sunday, November 1 in the Great Room of the Old
Town Hall, 16 South Road, Bedford, MA at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made
in his memory to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Freeman Research Fund, 185 Pilgrim
Road, Palmer Building #111, Boston, MA 02215.
