McDonald,  Robert J." Bob" Age 74 of Lexington and Harwich  Bob died August 10, 2022 one day before his 75 ^th birthday after a long and courageous battle in which he never gave up.  Beloved husband of Mary L (Murphy) McDonald. Devoted dad of James J. McDonald and wife Jessica of Hingham, MA; Brendan J. McDonald and fiancee Sarah Williams of Inglewood, CA; Allison E. McDonald and partner William Schira of Mount Horeb, WI and Robert J. McDonald Jr of Denver, CO. Loving pop, of Connor, Ryann and Lucy of Hingham, MA.

Bob is survived by sister Jane Weiss of Lititz, PA, brother Jeff McDonald of Fairfax, VA and many nieces and nephews.  Bob was predeceased by his parents James J. and Eleanor B. (McNair) McDonald and youngest sister Barbara Dunn of Montclair, NJ.

Bob was born in the Bronx. He was a proud graduate of Montclair High, class of 65. He graduated from Ursinus College and Temple University graduate school.

A gifted athlete, Bob played wooden bat baseball in rural PA after college. He became a social studies teacher at Concord Carlisle High School, where he also coached football and tennis. He went on to become a financial advisor at Kidder Peabody; after several mergers he retired from UBS.

Bob had a magnetic, mischievous charm. He loved family, friends, teammates and most of all, his four children and grandkids. Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday because it meant spending time with family.  Bob loved teaching sports to kids. He taught baseball for more than twenty years in the town of Lexington, from T ball to Babe Ruth. An avid reader, Bob had a vast knowledge of history, geography, music; from classical, blues, jazz to rock and roll. He loved theater and was board member of The Merrimack Repertory Theater in Lowell. He was a dedicated rotarian in The Merrimack Valley Rotary Club. He was a member of St Brigid's Church in Lexington. He had many friends in The Old Res Yacht Club of Lexington. A Boston sports fan, he supported the Red Sox and the Patriots. He played golf at the Lexington Club and Cranberry Valley in Harwich.

The family wishes to thank the employees of Carlton Willard Village / Ross Worthen, Bedford MA; most especially their caretakers for the devotion and loving care Bob received.

Visitation hours 4-7 pm, Wednesday September 7 at Douglas Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington MA. A memorial service will be held at 11am, Thursday September 8, at St Brigid's Church, 1981 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA.
