Robert John Tracey

Robert John Tracey passed away peacefully at home in Lexington, Massachusetts, on Saturday, March 28th at the age of 93 surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born on February 21, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts to Helen Caroline and Harold John Tracey. He was raised in the Irish Mission Hill neighborhood of Roxbury where he attended Catholic school and was an alter server at the Basilica and Shrine of our Lady of Perpetual Help. He was a paper boy starting at 9 years old selling newspapers outside of Fenway Park, which was a short trolley ride from home. He was then a shoe shiner at Fenway Park where he had the honor of shining Ted Williams shoes.

In 1950, he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 17, to serve in the Korean War, which required his Mother's permission,  He was badly wounded during the war after taking on enemy fire in his platoon's fox hole. After several months in a hospital in Germany, he was transferred to Washington State for the remainder of his service.

After his discharge, he returned to Boston and in 1960 met Edith Cuccinello.  They married on June 16, 1962.  Together they made their home in Lexington, Massachusetts, where they raised their four daughters, Julie, Lisa, Kathleen and Pamela.

Robert owned and operated Manchester Hydraulics in Manchester, NH with his brother Gerry. After selling the business, he was an EMT with Corcoran Ambulance in Lexington, and later worked at the Wal- Lex Hardware store with his brother-in-laws and family. He was a member of the Wal-Lex Bowling Alley, Bowling League.

In later years, he generously gave his time as a volunteer at the Bedford VA Hospital reflecting his deep compassion and commitment to helping veterans who bravely served their country. He also managed and led the Veterans Day parade and Flag Day celebration in Lexington for many years.

Robert was an active member and Chairman of the Town of Lexington's Celebration Committee, He will be remembered as a loving and proud Papa of nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren, his great humor, love for being outdoors tending to his flower and vegetable gardens where he enjoyed tending to his tomatoes, zucchinis and perennials. He loved the Boston Red Sox and all New England Sports. He had lots of friends from the VFW and community.

Robert is survived by his daughter's: Julie McAdams and her husband Kyle of Davidson, NC, Lisa Doherty and her husband Dwayne of Tewksbury, Kathleen Renfro of Waltham and her Fiancé, Christoper Butler and Pamela Ferro and her husband Manny of Gloucester; his nine beloved grandchildren, Julia Napier, Jenna Rose Sander, Jonathan,  Sarah Katherine and James Renfro, Caroline and Manuel Ferro, Liam and Aidan Doherty and two beautiful great grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife Edith Tracey who he was married to for 62 years.

Funeral from the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington Tuesday April 7 at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Brigid Church, Lexington at 10am. Visiting hours at the funeral Home on Monday from 4pm to 6pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.
