Roland Segalini Jr, 76, of Belmont, formerly Lexington and Waltham, passed away peacefully at his home after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's Disease. He will be dearly missed by his 3 sons, Michael, Christopher and Justin; their respective wives, Allison, Michaela and Adrienne; 8 beautiful grandchildren, Giovina (15), Oliver (12), Julian (12), Leila (10), Jude (9), Jonah (8), Darla (7) and Sebastian (7); and his two younger siblings, Mark & David.

Born in Boston and raised in Waltham, Roland spent his youth playing Warrendale little league, in which he famously played 3rd base and won at least one batting title.  He attended Boston College High School, followed by Boston College for undergraduate; and later earned his law degree from Suffolk University.

Following the death this spring of his beloved wife of 50 years, Suzanne, Roland was ready to move on from this world in search of the peace and comfort that Parkinson's had robbed him of over the preceding 15 years.  While it is incredibly difficult to say goodbye to our beloved father and friend, we can be at ease with the knowledge that he is sure to find that peace and comfort at Suzanne's side.

Roland was more than a husband, father, brother, friend or golf partner, but also a trusted counselor and problem-solver.   As an attorney with a uniquely generous heart, he gave his time liberally to anyone in need who called on his help.  Not that his children ever needed such help, but had they, his first instinct would surely have been to defend and support them without a thought towards punishment or judgment.  Hypothetically speaking, of course.

His daily life was motivated by an unparalleled work ethic and restless spirit that was channeled into his work at Segalini, Neville & Maher until a gradual retirement in 2019.  "The office," as it was ubiquitously known in the family, was a source of considerable pride for Roland, and was an enterprise made successful as much by his unimpeachable reputation and character as it was by the passion he had for law and the people he was helping.  This restless drive was complemented by an inspiring strength and stoicism that pervaded his life.  Unless a thermostat was turned too low in the summer or high in the winter, a light left on, or a door left open, he never complained, even when his health began to fail him 15 years ago.

When not in the office, Roland relished his time with friends on the golf course and in the card room at Oakley Country Club, where he could be found any day weather and work permitted, and undoubtedly every Wednesday night regardless of the season.  Roland's 60-year journey with Oakley began as a caddie, and included long stretches on the Board of Governor's as well as a term as President.

A lover of both nature and history, Roland's passion for the natural world was never more apparent than in the beautiful gardens that he kept; an endeavor supported by his restless disposition as well as the free labor afforded him by having 3 sons.  And while Roland's own life has now become part of history, and his body to be returned to the earth that he loved to toil in so much, the sadness that we feel for the loss of his daily presence will be replaced by the memories of joy and unconditional love that he left with all of us that were lucky enough to call him friend, husband, brother or Dad.

Please join us in celebrating Roland's life at The Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington, MA on Monday, November 20th, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  A Private Christian Burial will be held at Westview Cemetery following visitation.
