Roslyn Dorothy
Lau
d. Jun 28, 2026
Roslyn Dorothy Lau (née Alleyne), wife of the late Sumshun Samson Lau, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2026 in Lexington, Massachusetts, USA. Born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad, Roslyn was the third child and eldest daughter of Gilbert and Dorothy (Sancho) Alleyne.
Roslyn grew up in Trinidad where she nourished her quintessential "Trini" personality refining it to her own unique character. She attended Bishop Anstey High School, before spending time in London, England, attending Pitman's College. Back in Trinidad she met Samson; they were married in 1961, and moved to Barbados in 1966. Together they raised four children and supported them all in earning advanced degrees. Roslyn and Samson eventually moved to the USA in 2005 to be close to their children and grandchildren.
Roslyn maintained a close, deep, cultural connection to her Trinidad homeland by regularly listening to music by local artists (especially at Christmas time) and having her favorite homemade dishes. Celebrations were toasted with a glass of Moët; she thoroughly enjoyed a bowl of ice cream; and loved to attend Broadway shows. Roslyn was well traveled, and cherished Grenoble, France, Pebble Beach, California, the Northern California wine country, and the island of Oahu, Hawaii.
Roslyn was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. And she greatly treasured her dearest friends. Her passing leaves a profound sense of loss but her legacy lives on in the lives of all those she touched.
Roslyn is survived by her four children, David, Jennifer (Gene), Suzanne (Tom) and Stanley; her five grandchildren Caleb, Allison (Owen), Eric, Claire and Lauren. She is sister to the late Kenneth (Vivian deceased), Selwyn (Ellie), Anne (Calvin) and Judy. She also had an honorary #5 child in her nephew Alistair.
