Custance, Ruth B. (Bradley) of Lexington, June 16, 2018. Beloved wife of the late Robert W. Custance. Loving mother of Philip Custance of Chelmsford, Dana Custance and his wife Dotty of Belmont, NH, Janet LaFond and her husband David of Laconia, NH, Steven Custance and his wife Gail of Holderness, NH, and Pamela Vaughan and her husband Walter of Lexington. Step-mother of Howard Custance and his wife Phyllis of Boxborough. Sister of the late Edward Bradley. Ruth is also survived by 11 grandchildren, by 16 great grandchildren, and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to raising their five children, Ruth was also an active Member in the Lexington community serving as a volunteer at the Dana Home and with the Red Cross Blood Drives. She was an auxiliary member of the Massachusetts Baptist Home in Kingston as well as a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Lexington. She loved music, and in earlier years directed the church Children's Choir. She sang Alto in the Senior Choir and enjoyed playing hymns on her piano at home. A wonderful cook, Ruth prepared innumerable meals over the years for her church family and the Lexington Clergy Association. Ruth was an avid game player, be it cards, board games, puzzles, or "cut throat" RACK-O.
Family and friends were Ruth's delight. She spent summers on Squam Lake NH and loved to host and entertain her many guests there. She will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday June 23 at the First Baptist Church, 1580 Mass. Ave. Lexington at 11 am with refreshments and social time to follow at the church. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Calling hours at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd. Lexington Friday June 22 from 4pm to 8pm. In lieu of flowers,donations in her memory may be made to World Vision International at www.worldvision.com/donate . A Family interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Lexington.
