Bliss, Susan H. (Harvey) died peacefully in Lincoln, MA on January 22 nd , 2022. She was born in Ashbury, England on July 26 th , 1947. She attended the Saint Catherine's Convent School in Twikenham. Following her graduation, she began working as a lab technician at the Ashford Hospital. She soon moved to London and started working for the London Institute of Hygiene and Tropical Disease. In 1974 Susan moved to the United States. Initially settling in Pittsburgh, Susan later moved to the suburbs of Boston, Massachusetts in the 1980s and began dating Michael Bliss. In 1983 they married in England and settled in Natick, MA where they purchased a beautiful historic Victorian home. They had two children together, Nicholas, and Christopher Bliss, and a step-son Austin Bliss. While living in Massachusetts, Susan worked in the Pathology Lab at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
Susan was an avid gardener, chef, and outdoor enthusiast; she could often be found in her kitchen or tending to one of her many gardens. She enjoyed the outdoors, and spent several weeks a year camping, hiking, and kayaking on Cape Cod with her family. She is remembered as an individual who was strong, stoic, and intelligent who lightened up the room with her smile. Her life was complicated by an early diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease in her 40s. However, her strong spirit kept her moving for a great many years after the diagnosis.
In 2009 Susan and Michael downsized to a home in Lexington, MA. While her health had declined, she continued to pursue her passions and welcomed the addition of her new grandchildren which she adored every moment with. In 2016 Susan and Michael moved to Newbury Court in Concord, MA where she developed a close group of friends among the residents and continued to enjoy some of her favorite activities such as swimming and Tai Chi.
Susan will be remembered as a strong and loving woman, with an unrivaled passion for life. She will be sorely missed by her children Nicholas and Christopher, her stepson Austin, their spouses; Leah Bliss, Lisa Bliss, and Gary Van Deurse, her brother Christopher Harvey and wife Carol Harvey and many nieces, cousins, friends, step-relatives, and non-relatives that can be readily named.
A private memorial service was held in her memory among a close circle of family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
