SISTER SUZANNE FORGET

Sister Suzanne Forget, was born to Jean-Maurice and Lucy (Rho) Forget in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  She had an older sister and three younger brothers.  She very much enjoyed growing up in the city of Montreal.  As was customary at the time, she attended boarding high school run by nuns and loved the sense of community.  After high school she made her commitment to God as a Grey Nun in Montreal.  Her five years of piano lessons at home were utilized in her first assignment, teaching music and piano to orphans.  In 1955, Sr. Suzanne was asked to leave her beloved country to become an organist and teacher of fourth and fifth grades at Mount St. Ann Orphanage in Worcester, Massachusetts, where she learned English, which proved to be her biggest challenge.  In 1959 after she took her final vows, Sr. Suzanne was named to St. Joseph Orphanage in Nashua, New Hampshire, as a childcare worker for baby girls, whom she loved.  While pursuing her bachelor's degree, she worked as a teacher at Lexington Academy in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she earned the adoration of the students in her third grade class.  In 1965, Sr. Suzanne received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Rivier College in Nashua, New Hampshire, and served three years at John F. Kennedy School of Religion in Lexington, Massachusetts, where she taught and trained adult volunteers and parents to teach CCD classes.  As with all of her ministries, Sr. Suzanne was up to this challenge; and her presence as a Grey Nun was much appreciated.  In 1969, Mount St. Ann was being rebuilt and Sr. Suzanne offered to take on the position of house mother/manager as a childcare worker in one of the new cottages; a demanding yet rewarding ministry.  This interim position lasted 10 years in which time Sr. Suzanne earned the gratitude of the children and the respect and admiration of her colleagues and supervisors for her genuine care and concern for these children.  In early 1983, a new calling led Sr. Suzanne to the next phase of her ministry: a position working in the Secretariat at the Provincial Administration.  She was appointed and served as Provincial Secretary for six years.  Her knowledge and skills were eventually transferred to the position of Office Manager which she has held until her retirement in 2017.  Sr. Suzanne served as Local Superior for over 17 years in different communities and continued her many years of volunteer work with various committees.  She served on the Board of Directors at Mount St. Ann in Worcester and Youville Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Cambridge, Massachusetts as well as the Board at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, New Hampshire and Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services in Lawrence, Massachusetts, upholding the mission of St. Marguerite d'Youville.  It was in her nature to want to help and welcomed a good challenge; as did St. Marguerite.

Sr Suzanne passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 22, 2024 at Mary Immaculate Health/Care Services in Lawrence, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Therese DeRosiers, and her brothers, Yves and Claude Forget.  She is survived by her brother, Jacques Forget and his partner, Luc Bourgie, as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Youville Place Chapel, 10 Pelham Rd. Lexington on Friday Jan. 3 at 12:15pm. Visitation in the chapel from 10am to 11am. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
