Obituary

Timothy Chi-Ping Wong was born on May 17, 1953 in Hong Kong. He was the fourth and youngest child of Cho-Ki Wang and Kee Sui-Khun.

After high school in Hong Kong, Tim followed his brother Tom to study architecture at the University of Oregon, graduating with distinction.  He also did his graduate study in architecture and construction at Columbia University in New York City and received an MArch degree.

Tim was a member of the American Institute of Architects as well as the Royal Institute of British Architects in the United Kingdom.  He practiced in Washington, Oregon and Hong Kong before settling in Boston.  His expertise in architectural details and construction methods are well known and he was always happy and generous to offer his help to younger architects.

Full of faith and love for Christ, Tim was kind and compassionate.  He always greeted people with a big smile and was eager to help others in need.  He gladly offered rides to the elderly to attend church functions when he was physically able, even going very much out of his way.  He loved cooking and gardening, especially the cultivation of orchids, usually nurturing at least six or seven different specimens.  His vegetable garden was always full of surprises every summer; his gift for gardening was inherited from his mother who had the natural talent for growing plants as well as being a gourmet chef.

Tim became his mother's full time care-giver when she was stricken with dementia, until she passed away in 2008.  His kidney failure resulted in daily home dialysis which he managed all by himself, although this limited his ability to travel and see the world.  Several rounds of chemotherapy for his liver cancer also weakened his body and resulted in dangerously low blood pressure, but he still managed to take care of himself without any complaints.  He continued to drive, do his own shopping, prepare his own meals, attend medical appointments, and even take his weekly trash out for pickup.  After a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer, Tim was received by God on September 13, 2023.  He has won the crown of righteousness reserved for him in heaven, and joins his mother and father in the presence of their heavenly Father.

He is survived and dearly missed by his brother Tom Wang (Jackie) of Lincoln, MA, sisters Judy Lee (KC) of Hong Kong, and Betty Wong of Concord, CA, as well as nephews Joe, Andrew, Matt, Alfred and David, and their spouses and children.

A memorial service will be held at Douglas Funeral Home at 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, MA on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 9 am.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  A private interment will follow in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Brookline.
