Vaheeswary Cumaresan

1939 - 2026

Cumaresan, Vaheeswary, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away at her home on Saturday, April 25th, 2026, at the age of 86.  She is survived by her five children: Radha and her husband Aaron, Yamuna and her husband Balasundaram, Saratha and her husband Suresh, Bala and his wife Vaithehi, and Vasuki and her husband Wijendran.  She has 9 grandchildren, whom she loved and adored - Anjanah, Vijeyanand, Ashvina, Krishanand, Prashanthi, Gapilan, Apsara, Seyon, and Mithran. She was also a great grandmother to Reena, Sophie, Lakshiya, Aaron and Lakshara.

Born in Jaffna, and fondly known as Vahes, she spent most of her life in Sri Lanka before immigrating to the United States with her cherished late husband to be closer to her children. She was kind, caring, and gentle, finding great joy in spending time with her children and their families. Vahes was remarkably bright and capable—often surprising her children by besting them at chess while deftly guiding the family through many transitions across the globe. She possessed a quiet strength and resilience, facing life's challenges with unwavering composure. Profoundly spiritual, Vahes was a devoted follower of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and found immense happiness in participating in religious activities alongside fellow devotees.

She will be remembered by all as a sweet and tender soul. She leaves us just as she lived, quietly, peacefully, calmly – and with the warmth of love that she gave so generously.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2026 from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington, MA 02421. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Manitha Neyam Trust. ( https://manithaneyam.org/) .
