PARSONS, Vernon M. Of Lexington, MA passed away at Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA on April 2nd, 2011. He and his wife Shirley would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on April 14th. They met in his hometown of Saint John, New Brunswick Canada. At age 17, Vernon joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, where after his initial training he attained rank of Pilot Officer. He was scheduled to fly overseas but VJ Day was declared and his flight cancelled. He received an honorable discharge soon after, returned to his hometown and attended technical school to learn the electrical trade. Vernon and Shirley then moved to her hometown of Lexington where he continued electrical training earning his Journeyman's and Master Electrician's Licenses at the age of 20. He was a member of Local 103 IBEW of Boston and received a Certificate for 55 years of Loyal Service. He retired from Solar Electrical Construction as Project Manager. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for many years serving as an usher, served a number of years as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop 145 and enjoyed being a member of the Lexington Minuteman Square Dancers. After retirement, Vernon enjoyed cultivating his gardens. Vernon is survived by his wife, Shirley; his son Glenn of Mystic, CT, father of Joseph, Theresa and Craig; his daughter Dale Johnson of Beddeford ME, his son Jay Parsons of Lexington; his daughter Cindy Hurn and her husband Nicholas of Norwich, England and his son Wade and his wife Michele, parents of Alana and Christopher of Wakefield, MA. He has one sister, Barbara Wheaton of St. John, NB. A Celebration of Life will be announced later in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
