VINCENT A. ANDALORO, JR., M.D.

VINCENT A. ANDALORO, JR. (1942-2023) ("Vini"), was a devoted and loving husband, gentle and caring father and grandfather, brother, nephew and uncle, as well as a deeply faithful Christian. He was a talented and caring physician, a trusted and reliable colleague, a lifelong teacher, and a neighbor and friend.

On his passing, Vini was surrounded and survived by his loving wife Patricia ("Pat") and their family, including his four children, Vincent, Steven (and Lynne), Judith (and William) Bijesse, and Mary Elizabeth (and Timothy) Boratyn, and by his brother James (and wife Joanne).  Along with his wife and children, Vini is survived by fourteen grandchildren and by five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his younger brothers, Anthony and James. He was pre-deceased by his beloved sister, Marie Arinello, in 2019.

Vini married Pat (Doherty), his teenage sweetheart and love of his life, on September 18th, 1965. They had coincidentally met at a Boston College High School dance (where neither attended, but where each had mutual friends). They dated for several years, and became inseparable. Vini and Pat were married for fifty-seven years until his passing. Together they shared a love of family, learning, travel, French language, history, art, music and culture. Most importantly, they were bound together by the depth and richness of their mutual Catholic faith. Until Vini's death, and continuing, their souls and love remain inseparable forever.

Vini was an avid reader and lifelong student, as well as a teacher of his children and grandchildren, and of numerous resident physicians who came under his supervision. His interests were almost infinite, and included (but were certainly not limited to) science, mathematics, literature, philosophy, history, languages (Latin, Ancient Greek, French, and even hieroglyphics), art, music, and theater.

Vini was born in Medford, MA, the eldest of four children of Dr. Vincent and Isabel Andaloro. He grew up in Everett. MA. From a young age he gravitated toward learning and academics due to his profound internal curiosity and intellectual capacity. He was supported in this (and in his early vocation to become a physician), by his teachers and professors, and by his mother and father. His aunts and uncles also played a significant role in his life, and were particularly encouraging towards him in his academic pursuits.

Vini attended and graduated from the Boston Latin School in 1960, Harvard College in 1964, and the State University of New York (Upstate) Medical School in 1968. He was accepted for internship at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC which he completed in 1969. He then pursued a residency in urology (and surgery) at Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY, and at the Boston City Hospital. He received his Board Certification from the American Board of Urology in 1975. During his medical career, Vini held academic appointments from Harvard University, Boston University School of Medicine, and from SUNY Upstate Medical Center, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital, all in Syracuse.

During his medical training, Vini also served for seven years as a Captain in the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam War era, and was Honorably Discharged upon the completion of his service in 1975.

Vini and Pat returned to the Boston area in 1975 and settled in Lexington, MA. He initially practiced urology at Mount Auburn Hospital, and then at Norwood Hospital for twenty-six years. He subsequently practiced at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Boston, MA, and then until his retirement, at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. During his practice as a physician, a time spanning almost forty years, Vini cared for thousands of patients, many of whose lives he saved, or whose health he restored or improved through his skilled, wise and compassionate care.

Vini was an avid runner for most of his adult life, and completed the Boston Marathon when he was fifty years old. He also enjoyed watching Boston sports teams, and was a passionate fan of Syracuse University athletics.

Pat, along with Vini's family, express their profound thanks to the staff of Carleton Willard's Ross-Worthern Unit in Bedford, MA for their expert care, and loving attention to him, Pat and their family during his last months and days.

Visitation at Douglas Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington on Monday, June 5th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and on Tuesday, June 6th at 9:00 AM., followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Saint Brigid's Church, 1981 Massachusetts Avenue, Lexington at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends are all kindly invited.
