Obituary

Cumaresan, Vythilingam – beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at the age of 88.  He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vaheesvary and their five children: Radha and her husband Aaron, Yamuna and her husband Balasundaram, Saratha and her husband Suresh, Bala and his wife Vaithehi, and Vasuki and her husband Wijendran.  He has 9 grandchildren, with whom he had a close and caring relationship: Anjanah, Ashvina, Vijey, Krish, Prashanthi, Gapilan, Apsara, Seyon, and Mithran.  He is also survived by his loving brother Nadesan and his wife Kamala.  Born in Colombo, Sri Lanka, he enjoyed a long and prestigious career in the civil service, most recently as the Commissioner of Inland Revenue.  He immigrated to the United States after his retirement to be close to his family.

He had a voracious appetite for literature, both Tamil and English, and was an enthralling story-teller, often entertaining family and friends with his anecdotes.  He gave his time freely and lovingly to those around him and doggedly insisted on gathering the entire family together for special occasions.  He was profoundly spiritual and found great solace in the various religious activities he participated in.  He will be remembered fondly and missed deeply.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 4:00 pm-8:00 pm at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd., Lexington, MA 02421.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the Manitha Neyam Trust ( https://manithaneyam.org/ ).
