Obituary

COPP, William H., Jr. Age 74, of Bedford, MA, passed away peacefully at Lahey Clinic, Burlington, MA after a long illness. Bill was born to William and Beatrice Copp of Bedford, MA on August 31, 1940 in Arlington, MA. Bill grew up in Bedford, MA and graduated from Belmont Technical High School. He owned and operated Lex-Aire products, which manufactured spray paint equipment. He was an inventor and held several patents. Bill held a commercial pilot's license and was a certified airplane mechanic for the F.A.A. He restored many vintage aircraft and even built a helicopter. He owned Granite State Helicopter School of Concord, NH and was a helicopter pilot for various photographers who photographed construction sites. Bill was a member of the Quiet Birdmen, a pilot fraternity. He survived both a helicopter and airplane crash. Bill enjoyed flying model helicopters and planes, and was a member of various radio controlled clubs. He loved riding his snowmobile in winter with the Belmont Bogie Busters Snowmobile Club, and couldn't wait for the warm weather to ride his motorcycle. He belonged to the Merrimack Valley Chapter Harley Owners' Group. Bill enjoyed spending time boating and relaxing at his cottage on Lake Winnisquam in Belmont, NH. Also, he was a member of the Charles River Yacht Club in Cambridge, MA. Bill was a member of Grace Chapel and will be remembered for his strong faith, love of God, and family. Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Lindell Copp. They lived in Lexington for 19 years before moving back to Bedford. Bill and Liz enjoyed exploring the island of Bermuda 9 times. Bill had 5 children: Lynne Dunn and her husband Robert of Westhampton, Mark Copp and his wife Terry of Lancaster, Robert Copp of Bedford, LoriAnn O'Brien and her husband Ron of Bedford, and Liisa Proulx and her husband John of Westford. He leaves behind 12 grandchildren: Christen, Tim, Maddie, Abbie, Quinn, Emmett, Wyatt, Adam, Maeve, Griffen, Niall, and Lillian. Bill is also survived by his sister, Patricia Spear of Chelmsford, Jean Hamilton of Essex, Maryland, and John Copp of Midland, Michigan. He is the brother in law of Linda Lindell of Lexington. Calling hours will be held at Douglass Funeral Home in LEXINGTON, on Sunday, August 2, 3:00-7:00 pm. A funeral will be held at Grace Chapel in Lexington on Monday, August 3, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army or the Grace Chapel Elders' Fund.
