William Raymond Greenwood, 84, of Bedford, New Hampshire and formerly of Ipswich and Lexington, and Terre Haute, Indiana, died March 9, 2015 in Boston, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Rose (Malanowski) Greenwood, with whom he shared 62 years of marriage.

Born in Detroit, Michigan on November 10, 1930, he was one of five children of the late Claude Albert Greenwood and the late Elsie Pearl (Edwards) Greenwood. He attended public schools in Terre Haute, Indiana and was an engineering graduate of Purdue University. He also earned graduate degrees in engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and in business from Ohio State University.

Mr. Greenwood started his career in the US Air Force, serving for five years on active duty, and several more years in the Air Force Reserve. His duty included three years as an engineering officer at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. He then worked seven years at RCA in Burlington as a group leader and engineering scientist on military electronics projects. Mr. Greenwood was then employed at Raytheon Company for 29 years before his retirement in 1993. At Raytheon, he was a Principal Engineer working on missile systems at facilities in Bedford, Wayland, and Tewksbury. He was a Life Senior Member of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics.

Before moving to Bedford, New Hampshire in 2001, Mr. Greenwood resided in Ipswich, Massachusetts for 8 years and in Lexington, Massachusetts for 34 years. He had been a member and elder at Grace Chapel in Lexington and a member at First Congregational Church of Hamilton.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Greenwood is survived by four children. They include Robin Bedell and her husband Jeffrey of Harvard, William R. Greenwood, Jr. of Lexington, Jane Greenwood-Fiaschetti and her husband Tony of Cumberland, Maine, and Lori Alaimo of Townsend. Mr. Greenwood is also survived by eight grandchildren, including Rebecca Bedell, Sarah Portuondo and her husband Joseph, Jacqueline Heinrich, Austin Heinrich, Maxwell Heinrich, Dana Kenniston, Andrea Alaimo and Annalise Alaimo, and one great-grandchild, Melody Portuondo. He is also survived by a sister, Nancy Sue Maurer Clark and her husband David of Ft. Myers, Florida, and by 25 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, including James Alfred Greenwood of Terre Haute, Claude Thomas Greenwood of Conneaut, Ohio, and Edmund Richard Greenwood of Logansport, Indiana.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 20 from 5-8 pm at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road, Lexington, Massachusetts. Burial will be at the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich, Massachusetts, on Saturday, March 21 at 10 am, to be followed by a memorial service held at 1 pm at Carlisle Congregational Church, 147 School Street, Carlisle, Massachusetts.
