Kennedy, William P.  "Bill" of Lexington passed away on December 11, 2022, after a short illness.  Bill was the beloved husband of Janice (Sacco) Kennedy and the loving father of Kathleen Kennedy of Sudbury, Bill Kennedy of Johnston, RI, and Michael Kennedy of Norman, OK. He was the devoted brother of Dorothy Kennedy Blanchette of Natick, Kathleen Kennedy Sudanowicz of Franklin, the late Clare Kennedy Crawford and the late Leo Kennedy. Bill is survived by 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  Bill's proudest achievement was his family, whom he showered with love and support.

Bill was born in South Boston and grew up in Dorchester, in St. William's Parish.  After graduating BC High, Bill studied Civil Engineering at Northeastern University, earning a Master's Degree. He then served two years of Active Duty in the Army Corp of Engineers while stationed in Germany.  Bill and Janice settled in Lexington to raise their family while Bill continued his military career with 28 years of service in the Army Reserves and the Massachusetts National Guard.  He also had a successful engineering career with Polaroid, retiring in 2004.

Bill led a life of service in the Lexington community.  He coached soccer and t-ball with his children and other local youth.  He served on the St. Brigid's Parish Council and sang in the church choir.  Bill actively supported fellow veterans, volunteering with Lexington Veterans.  He was a founding board member of LexHAB in 1983.  He was passionate about its mission to expand affordable housing solutions in Lexington and was active in that pursuit right until he passed.  Bill served as Town Selectman from 2002 - 2005.  In 2017, the Lion's Club recognized Bill's countless contributions to the community with the White Tricorne Hat award.

Above all, Bill loved to spend time with his family and friends.  He was a great listener.  He cherished the memories of trips with lifelong friends that were referred to as the "Vacation Club" as well as the time he and Janice spent at their Florida condo in recent years.  A tennis fanatic in his youth, golfing had become his passion.  He last hit the links with his daughter Kathleen just before becoming ill.

The wake will be held at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Road in Lexington on Thursday, December 15 ^th from 4pm to 7pm.  A mass of Christian burial will be said on Friday, December 16th at 11am at Saint Brigid's Parish, Lexington. Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory be made to LexHAB, Attn: Executive Director, 1620 Mass Ave, Suite 4, Lexington, MA 02420. Interment will be at Westview Cemetery, Lexington, immediately following the funeral services.  The US Army will provide Military Funeral Honors in recognition of Bill's service.

To commemorate his lifelong service to the community, the flag on the Lexington Green will be flown at half-mast in Bill's honor on Friday, December 16 ^th .
