William Dowd Mahoney

Born to Ann and John Mahoney on December 27, 1961, William "Bill" Dowd Mahoney was born to eternal life on August 18, 2024. He leaves behind his daughter, Gillian, who was the center of his life; his loving life companion, Diane MacDonald; and Gillian's mother, Elvira Venturina. His siblings, John (spouse Lenor) and Pat (spouse James O'Brien), cherished him. His nieces, Alison, Emma, Emily and Erin, adored him. Bill's loving family includes his Godmother, Mary Louise Hegarty, and her husband, Neil; his cousins, Julie Hamm (spouse Richard and children Brian, John, and Lauren), Ray Angelone (spouse Stephanie and children Aeden and Lilia), Kate Mitchell (spouse David and children Owen and Abigail), Margaret Hegarty (daughter Elizabeth Carey), Maria Hegarty (spouse Nate Herpich and son Declan), and Elizabeth Hegarty (daughter Katie McCabe). Bill was a beloved member of the Belmont Hill School community, where he served as Director of Communications. He loved the Rolling Stones and their music brought him moments of peace during his illness. Bill was a master chef whose creations became a hit with family and friends through his Instagram posts. Most of all, Bill provided his family and friends with so much entertainment, joy, and laughter. We carry him in our hearts forever. Visiting hours will be Saturday, August 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Evangelist Church, 2270 Massachusetts Avenue, North Cambridge, MA 02140, followed at 11 a.m. by a Celebration of Life Mass, also at St. John the Evangelist Church.
