Wright, William W. Jr. (also known as 'Papito'), age 98, a Lexington resident for over 50 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his side on May 12, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Doris L. Wright (Murphy). Father of Janet W. Heller of Colorado, Mark A. Wright of Lexington, and the late William W. Wright III and his late wife Yolanda Wright (Rojas).

He is survived by his brother Cyril Wright and his wife Karlene of Quincy, his grandchildren, Katrina Wright and her husband Ralph D. Johnson of Lexington, William W. Wright IV and his wife Norma Rodriquez of Concord, Adrienne Heller and her partner Margaret Shaheen of Colorado, Johnathan Wright of New Hampshire and Jennifer Wright of Georgia.  In addition, his four great-grandchildren whom he adored, Iliana Gray, William W. Wright V, Agustin Wright, and Olivia Johnson, and many loving nieces and nephews (including Donna, Mia, Ric, Carolina and Nora).

William was born on September 20, 1923 in Savannah, Georgia in 1923 to Ardis Lee Parkhurst and William Wesley Wright. When he was two years old, he moved from Savannah to the South End of Boston with the Great Migration. As a child, he worked in his father's dry cleaning business, delivered papers, and borrowed books from the Central Branch of the Boston Public Library. He attended Boston  Latin and English High School. At 18, he enrolled in Boston University for one year before being drafted to World War II, the 366 ^th Infantry Regiment, stationed in Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He served in northern Africa and Italy, as a Technical Corporal, where he worked with Russell Gideon in the headquarters company as a pharmacist and medic. On his return, he married his love, Doris (Peggy) Murphy and completed his Bachelor and Master degree from Boston University.

Over his career, he worked as a teacher and principal in the Boston Public Schools for 37 years, and he also worked as a bus driver, mail carrier, and English tutor. He was particularly proud of his work at Leonard Swanson's Operation Genesis, a summer educational program for inner city students on the North Shore. To the end, he was known for his good company, sharp mind, love of reading, steadfast support for a number of causes, and quiet humor. His family love and will miss him very much.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday May 20 ^th at the Douglass Funeral Home, 51 Worthen Rd . Visitation will be prior to the service from 11am-12pm and service will begin at 12pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment to follow at Westview Cemetery in Lexington.  In lieu of flowers,  donations may be made in William's honor to the Boston Public Library.
