DOUGLASS FUNERAL HOME (Est. 1876) has a rich heritage in funeral service, having provided funeral and cremation services to families of Lexington and the greater Boston area for six generations. In the year 1867, Ed Douglass married Priscilla Sprague and thereby had also married into the Sprague Funeral Home business, located in East Boston. Nine years later, Ed and Priscilla moved the business, remaining still in East Boston, and established (in the U.S. Centennial Anniversary Year of 1876) the Douglass Funeral Home on March 25, 1876. Ed and Priscilla Douglass were succeeded by their son Arthur Douglass, who eventually moved the Douglass Parlor to Chelsea. In 1944, Arthur's son, Albert Douglass moved the business to Lexington (at 1844 Mass. Avenue in the center of town, next to Cary Memorial Library). Al's son, Arthur F. Douglass, built the new home at 51 Worthen Rd. in Lexington in 1968 and opened there (its current location) in 1969. The Douglass Parlor is now owned and operating in its sixth generation under the direction of Mark S. Douglass.
